Depending on your arrival time to Kigali-Rwanda, meet our driver guide at Kigali International Airport who will brief you on what your Rwanda Gorilla Trek covers. Your 4 days Rwanda Gorilla Trekking starts with Kigali city tours which includes Kigali genocide site, and museum and craft markets. In case of late arrivals, you will spend a night in your preferred hotel in Kigali. After touring Kigali city, you have lunch at Hotel Des Mille or your preferred hotel and then drive northwestwards to Volcanoes National Park-a prominent home to a section of rare mountain gorillas.

Gorilla trekking rules and regulations

  • Only persons above 15 years are allowed to trek mountain gorillas
  • You have only an hour to have face to face encounter with mountain gorillas
  • Do not go to trek gorillas if you are sick
  • Keep a distance of 7-8 meters away from gorillas at all times
  • No flashlight camera should be used while taking photos of gorillas
  • Only 8 visitors are allowed to trek 1 habituated group

Best time to go for gorilla trekking

Gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park can be done at any time of the year. But the dry season is preferably the best time to go for gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park. It starts in the months of June, July, August, September and December, January, February. You can also embark on gorilla trek during the wet season (March-May and October-November) but this season receives plenty of rainfall.

Getting to Volcanoes National Park

Volcanoes National Park is set in northwestern Rwanda, 113 kilometres that is approximately 2-3 hours’ drive from Kigali city center. To get to Volcanoes National Park for the gorilla trek, you need a good and comfortable 4 wheel drive safari vehicle.

Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer from Kigali to Volcanoes

Arrive to Kigali International Airport where you will be met by our Africa Adventure safari driver / guide who will transfer you to Kigali for lunch and later to Ruhengeri (Volcanoes). Volcanoes is part of the Virunga mountains which has different volcanoes like Bisoke, Karisimbi, Muhabura, Sabyinyo and is home to endangered mountain gorillas together with Bwindi(Uganda) and Congo. Spend overnight and enjoy meals at Kinigi Guesthouse/ Gorilla’s Nest Hotel (FB).

Day 2: mountain gorilla tracking

Early morning wake up and take breakfast then proceed to the park head quarters for briefing. Go for gorilla trekking in the Volcanoes forest where you will be amazed by the huge size of the silverback, the behavior and communicating skills of these unique creatures among other things. Use this moment to learn and discover all there is about the gorillas. After wards return to Kinigi Guesthouse/ Gorilla Nest House. (FB).

Day 3: Dian Fossey grave/Golden monkey tracking

Enjoy breakfast in the morning and get to either Visit the famous American Primatologist Dian Fossey graveyard who dedicated almost 20 years of her life to studying and protecting mountain gorillas. See where she was murdered from at Karisoke.

You can go for golden monkey tracking it’s another rare primates you can learn about spend overnight and enjoy meals at Kinigi Guesthouse/ Gorilla’s Nest Hotel (FB)..

Day 4: Departure

In the morning, after you breakfast, return to Kigali for a gran Kigali city tour, expect ti visit the genocide memorial sites and later you will be transferred to the airport for your scheduled flight.
